Stainless Steel Hinges On All Asgard Sheds

Stainless Steel Shed Hinge

Asgard Sheds use Stainless Steel Hinges

As a true British manufacturer, Asgard are always searching for ways to improve the strength and security of our outdoor storage products. From 2024 we have swapped our hinges from our hard wearing steel to stainless steel.  Whilst our previous door hinges work fantastically well, we've upgraded them to stainless steel, offering even more protection against the weather and theft!

Stainless Steel is stronger and more resistant to rust and corrosion than even galvanised steel and provides an even longer life. Our stainless steel hinges are coated in our outdoor, weather-resistant powder coat paint for even more weather resistance, providing a long-lasting tough hinge.

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel, also known as inox, is a corrosion-resistant steel (CRES) and rustless steel. It is an alloy of iron that is resistant to rusting and corrosion and contains at least 10.5% chromium and usually nickel, as well as 0.2 to 2.11% carbon. The chromium content forms a passive film that can protect the material and self-heal. This means our new stainless steel hinges will be tougher, and last even longer. Although stainless steel does rust, this only affects the outer few layers of atoms, with its chromium content shielding deeper layers from oxidation. The addition of nitrogen also improves resistance to pitting corrosion and increases mechanical strength.

So, Why do you not use Stainless Steel for the Whole Shed Construction?

Simply, they would cost a fortune! Stainless steel costs substantially more than galvanised steel it would be unaffordable for a lot of users. Asgard sheds offer a high quality construction and finish at an affordable price, by using stainless steel for hinges (a moving part that gets a lot of wear and tear and is often an attack point for would-be thieves), we can maintain the same great price point whilst boosting our quality metal sheds.
