What's Hiding In Your Shed?

News  | By Asgard

The garden shed is a simple storage solution for all households, however a lot of us end up keeping hidden treasures stored in our sheds that we sometimes forget about amongst the disorganisation in our shed or don't realise they're value. For John Lambert in Suffolk, this turned out to be more than he could have ever imagined when an object he dug up in his back garden in 1997 that he had kept stored away in his shed turned out to be a bone of a dinosaur sea monster.

Mr Lambert first came across the bone in 1997 whilst digging holes in his back garden to construct a new fence when his spade hit a large obstacle. After much uncovering Lambert unearthed what appeared to be a huge bone which after deliberating decided to store in his shed. It was only after John rediscovered the bone when he was retired 16 years after it was first stored in his shed amongst the clutter that he decided to hand over the bone to experts in the local museum in Ipswich to look at his finding.

The museum experts were astounded to find that this large bone that Mr Lambert had been storing in his shed for 16 years turned out to be the upper limb of a 250 million year old pliosaur reptile, a dinosaur sea-killer believed to be on average 65 feet long with razor sharp teeth and limbs adapted to paddling. Mr Lambert admitted although he realised straight away the bone was somewhat special he opted to pop it in the shed for safe keeping, he only thought to take the bone for experts to have a look at when he realised how unusually big and heavy it was at a weight of 15 pounds and a length of 16 inches.

This astonishing story just goes to show how easy things can be forgotten about and lost when locked away in the clutter of a garden shed. Obviously it is very rare to come across a dinosaur bone in your garden shed, however there are many objects that can be easily forgotten about when stored away. A great idea for easy finding in your shed is to spring clean your shed and utilise your shed storage better. One great idea for this is to purchase additional shelving for inside your shed optimising your sheds space to it's maximum use as well as making it easier for you to see where you have stored all of the smaller objects which easily get lost in amongst the jumble of objects on the floor of a shed.
