Securing your windows and doors against burglary

If you didn’t already know that it’s National Home Security Month, where have you been? Here at Asgard we are proud to be official supporters. If you regularly check our newsfeed you’ll see the latest tips and advice we’re providing to help you protect your home from burglary this winter.

In the UK 1 home is burgled every 40 seconds and not surprisingly the most burgled area in the UK is London Metropolitan. Urban areas in general have twice the risk of burglaries than rural areas. This week of National Home Security Month, is focussed on making sure windows and doors are properly secured, to help keep thieves out.

Statistics have shown that 73% of burglars use doors to gain entry and in 3% of these cases the door was open. It has also been shown that you are six times more likely to be burgled if your home is without both window locks and double locks or deadlocks on the outside of doors.

How do you know if your windows and doors are secure?

Households with both window locks and double/deadlocks on the outside doors are described as having 'basic' home security. Numbers show that 6% of homes in the UK have less than this basic security. If you have a PVCu or composite front door why not upgrade to a British Standard euro profile cylinder (look for the Kitemark). Also by simply fitting an alarm, your home will be classed as having advanced security. This is a step that is easy and simple to do.

Don’t leave your home at risk. Make sure your windows and doors are secure now!
