Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee chooses an Asgard Gladiator Bike Shed

Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee contacted Asgard Storage for help and advice on a safe, secure and trustworthy way to store his award-winning bikes while he was out training, expressing that his bikes are his most prized possession. The Asgard team chatted directly with Alistair about the space he wanted to store his beloved bikes, inside a newly built garage adding an extra layer of protection. The Police approved Gladiator bike store was the perfect fit, providing an extra level of security for Alistair’s sports equipment, The Gladiator is a truly secure high-security bike shed to hold up to 8 bikes.

Who is Alistair Brownlee MBE?

Known as the Brownlee brothers, Alistair and his brother Jonny shot to fame in the 2016 Triathlon World Series in Mexico due to their dramatic ending where Alistair helped his brother to the finish line to take 2nd place while Alistair took 3rd. Their brotherly bond caught the nation's attention, now being a household name.

Alistair is the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles for the triathlon, winning gold in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016. He is also a two-time Triathlon World Champion and a two-time World Team Champion as well a three-time European Champion and a Commonwealth Champion, Brownlee was also awarded an MBE in 2013 for his services to triathlon. Alistair’s love of cycling began from the young age of 8 when he was introduced to triathlon by a family member and decided to take the sport seriously when he won the World Junior championships in 2006.

“Thanks, Asgard, a really great job, the shed looks good” - Alistair Brownlee

We checked in with Alistair a few years later to see how he's getting on with his XL bicycle store: "It’s all good at the moment thank you. Although I’m always getting more bikes - so might need another one soon!" - Alistair Brownlee

Why did Alistair choose the Gladiator Bike Shed x8?

Alistair opted to store his bikes in an Asgard Gladiator bike shed to store up to 8 bikes, due to its extra-large size and extra width on either side of its double doors. Combined with the Gladiator Bike Rack and multiple additional Bike Racks (designed specifically to hold spare bike frames), it maximised the space offering a large storage capacity.

Security was one of Alistair’s main concerns, even opting to put the secure bike shed inside his garage to offer a double layer of protection. To give him peace of mind while training, we suggested opting for one of our Police approved bike sheds to give him maximum protection. These bike stores are independently tested by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and are UK Locksmith Association and Secured by Design (Police) approved due to the Gladiator shed’s extensive security features including reinforced hinges, panels and doors, plus integral base and pick-and-drill resistant lock.

“An interesting install, Alister had the shed installed inside an old barn, which had a terrible floor, and was super tight for space - but we did it!” - Stuart, Asgard Installation.
