New statistics have been revealed showing the increase in the number of employees signing up for the Cycle To Work bike-purchase scheme. This figure has increased by 22.5% in the last year.
During the first 6 months of 2013, 44,000 employees joined the scheme as the UK’s interest in cycling continues to grow. More than 500,000 people have taken advantage of the Government’s tax free loan scheme which can greatly reduce the cost of a bike.
With the cost of fuel ever increasing, this scheme has provided employees with a cost effective method of transportation.
Steve Edgell, chairman of the Cycle To Work Alliance said “With rail fares continuing to rise above inflation, they show that there is a popular, affordable alternative to train travel – commuting to work by bike.
This is encouraging data, which should have an effect on the Government’s provision of funding for cycling infrastructure.
